I am in the market for a PiP and will pull the trigger this weekend. What is a fair price to pay for the base and advanced PiP in the San Francisco Bay Area? I am interested in experiences of folks who might have recently purchased.
Well, there's a difference between a "Fair" price and the price you're going to pay. A fair price would be one that you could live with assuming you didn't need the car, and the price a dealer would sell it for, assuming they weren't really compelled to move it off their lot in a hurry. If you are willing to pay more than the car is probably "worth", then you should wait awhile and see what happens in another month or two. I think that despite the recent drop in prices in some areas, the car is still over-priced except for those who really, really want one. To me, a fair price for the base model would be somewhere around a Prius Four's price. So somewhere in the $28,000-$29,000 range. With some of the aggressive deals right now, base models are close to that. The Advanced model probably should come in about $32,000 - $33,000 if they really want to move the iron off the lots. Right now, they're still about $4K over that. Toyota really needs to drop the idea that they should be getting the $4K that many in California are getting (State and Federal rebate/tax credit). By pricing the cars at $4K more than a price that makes sense for these cars, Toyota is essentially doing that.
I have no idea about what's a fair or good price, but Dianne's Southern CA deals for all things Prius LIFTBACK & PHEV Liftbacks | PriusChat is a starting point for a price w/o having to negotiate (but down in So Cal). New 2012 & 2013 Toyota | Camry Hybrid, Prius c, Corolla, RAV4, Tundra, Venza For Sale in Sunnyvale & the Bay Area and New Toyota Prius Plug-In | For Sale | Santa Rosa, CA are more data points. I've never met Dianne and never dealt w/Freeman Toyota. I bought my 06 Prius from Toyota Sunnyvale new in 06 and was satisfied w/the experience and price, at the time. hope this helps, a bit.
My suggestion would be to go to 3-4 dealers and pick up the one that is the cheapest. The PIP is still in a limited market so you are going to pay a "limited edition" price for one. BTW, a fair price is what you are willing to pay for one.
On KBB and Edmunds, I see a $500 rebate if I go with Toyota Financing (why not, given the 0% APR for 60 mos). What is the $2000 incentive? I have not heard of it? Is it a factory to dealer incentive to keep in mind while negotiating?
could be regional, they are advertising it here. factory to dealer, but you get it, they can't hide it. the financing is a great deal.

I think Toyota may in effect be paying the $1500 that Californian's receive - without the hassle of government paperwork .
apparently you can still get the rebate even if you buy the car from out of state, so those close to the oregon border can land some serious deals on this car – a grand total of $6k in rebates alone, and that's before you start haggling with the dealer on pricing.
