Hey All, My wife just cracked the screen on her nav panel in the 2012 Prius Four. Of course all the dealer can do is replace the whole unit for $3K. She says she found a place in California that'll replace the screen if we ship to 'em both ways for $750. I can also get an aftermarket unit for around the same price or a little more. My other option I'm looking into is finding an exact replacement unit from a salvage yard or some other place. I know it'll probably be hard to find one, but I'm just curious if anyone's ever gone down that route and what their success was? Not sure of places to look besides ebay and calling local salvage yards. Not sure if the system's firmware levels could make any differences too. I think I'd prefer the aftermarket route as we can get a nicer unit, but the one accessory I can't seem to confirm if it'll work or not with an aftermarket is the rear backup camera. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Then you've posted in the wrong area. I've marked this thread to be moved. Out of curiosity, what made you post here? We very frequently see posts incorrectly made in Prius v areas. I've never really understood why.
Moved to the Gen III audio and electronics forum. Also, a note to the OP, your wife's car is a Prius Four, not IV. Roman Numerals were only used for model designation in 2010.
Getting yours fixed for $750 + shipping sounds like the simple solution as long as you liked the system before it got broken.
That's personally what I would do. With the Entune integration and such built into the OEM unit for $750 that's fairly reasonable, even less or the same as many insurance deductibles.
