Anyone have some advice/tips for cleaning dust off the interior surfaces (esp. dashboard area)? That textured surface seems to really hold the accumulated dust more than other interiors I've dealt with...
good question. I don't like how armor all makes everything shiny and oily. I usually just use a damp paper towel, but I'm sure there are better products...
for dusting only (i.e. no real soils), i have always recommended Amazon.com: Pledge Grab-It Dust & Allergen unscented dry cloths, 32-Count (Pack of 6): Health & Personal Care - these guys do a great job of trapping dust and are very easy to use and best of all have no solvents or anything, so none of the oily/shiny crap Frank mentions above. for getting rid of actual dirt/spilled juice/soda/etc, i think wet paper towels – perhaps with a touch of dishwashing liquid for really tough stains – is all you need (and is the safest).
For the dash, nothing more than a microfiber is needed IMO to remove the dist etc. If for some reason there is actual debris which needs to be removed from the dash I'd still use a microfiber and Griots Garage interior cleaner. It is extremely mild yet quite the thorough cleaner. It is also great for stains in carpet and an array of other cleaning needs. It can be purchased in various sizes as well. I've found that a soft, dry terrycloth towel removes dust and marks from where hands or shoes leave white marks on the door panels. It works best going with the grain, so I wipe from the base of the windshield toward me. I haven't tried any of the microfiber cloths or other things mentioned in earlier posts. Somebody wrote in another thread on this subject that a lot of what we see caught in the grain on these surfaces is actually from our skin flaking off.
Thanks for the suggestions here. I wasn't familiar with that Griot's product...sounds like something to check out!
I use a damp cloth whenever I am actually washing the car, and have a dedicated swiffer to remove the dust in between washes.
