Not a pleasant thread. But neither are taxes. Taxing EV's will be dicey. The idea is to recapture the lost revenue from loss of gas tax. A flat tax penalizes EV usage because there is already a hefty tax(s) built into power bills. So if we start paying extra flat tax for having EV capability we are actually paying more total taxes in Gas + Electric Fee taxes + a flat tax surcharge for just having an EV capable car. How is that a green incentive? I'm an eco-capitalist. When green makes economic sense, as it will, we won't need government. Government props kill efficiency and innovation. Give the green companies a clear path to profits that is not littered with regulation, taxes and corporate welfare for the inefficient and this will boom. Keep tinkering with picking winners and losers and taxes and incentives and you will delay the green revolution by decades. Unencumber the beast and you will get good, cheap, green energy.

When the cart has 5 people and only 2 people are pulling the cart
eventually there will be nobody left to pull the cart. Then nobody
    has a free ride.....

The more you tax an individual the less incentive they will have and, of course,
less money to spend in the private sector.
