So my 2012 plugin was parked for about 3 days, and when I turned it on, heard loud knocking and the check engine light came and stayed on. When switching the car on or off, I'll hear two taps/ticks that were not there before. Loud knocking is not there now. What can the issue be? It was very cold and snowing.
Did you look under the hood for any dead animals that may have taken shelter there? Lol, other than that, I hope you don't have a serious mechanical problem.
i was thinking the 'knock on cold startup', but i don't think that sets the engine light off or leaves permanent sounds. does it drive okay otherwise?
I checked codes, and got P0301 cyl 1 misfire. Is it a on time thing? Or should I not erase the code and bring it to toyota?
Classic case of the ICE knock. First time I heard of a PIP having the problem. Be sure to report it to your dealer. Did you clear the code? Most of us victims never get a code... you did, congratulations.
I did not clear the code, should I bother taking it in? Or will the car function normally if I clear it and it doesn't come back?
Apparently there was this issue in 2011 prius cars, where the intake manifold was replaced. Is it possible my 2012 pip has the older version? This tsb describes my issue exactly... http://priuschat.com/attachments/t-sb-0010-12-pdf.34186/
Oh yeah, leave the code and take it in. Yes the 10-11-12s are all having the problems. I had the IM replaced and have not had the knock since but others have since replacement. Apparently it is not a total fix.
I drove it longer today until a warm up cycle was completed, and the light went off automatically. I think what caused it was moving the car while cold for a few minutes.
