I have a 2005 prius. In the past week, on the dashboard, the door opening warning light is kept on no matter the car is started or not. It went on and off for a few minutes during one of the trips the other days. Now it's always on. I went to a dealer today. It costed me $60 and more than an hour. They couldn't figure out what went wrong and asked me to drop off the car in the morning next week so they have more time to work on it. My first question is how to figure out which door has the problem? The second question is how to fix it.
I have found the most common reason for this light on my own car has been the tailgate not shut properly (only on the first latch). At odd times this has also on windy days triggered the alarm. Adjusting the latch so that the tailgate did not need to be slammed so hard (but not allowing it to rattle) cured the problem.
I cannot think of any other simple explanation and the fact that during a run the light went on and off suggests the tailgate moveing up and down on bumps or with air current over the rear spoiler.
