Firstly, I hope it doesn't seem as though I joined to post my car for sale. I have been a guest and non posting member for a while during the time I researched purchasing our Prius and have learned a lot from the site.

I have for sale our 2006 Toyota Prius, it is in excellent condition and needs nothing. I can show records of Toyota dealer maintenance from purchase to its most recent oil change and alignment (right before Christmas). I consistently get between 47-51 mpg CITY driving! Selling because my wife wants to try something different. Only thing I have added to the car is a window tint with lifetime warranty (helps keep it cool on those hot summer days and protects the interior). I have priced the car $5500 below what CarMax is asking for the same thing and you won't get the impeccable maintenance history from them, you'll just have to hope it was maintained. You will not be able to find a better maintained and lower mileage Prius for this price. I am asking $12500. Feel free to email me any questions and I can typically get back with you within the next hour or so. Comes with 2 sets of keys also. I really don't know what else to say, everything is in perfect working order and the car needs absolutely no maintenance at all. Email me if you have any questions (mcurtis at citadel.edu) . Thanks for looking. Pictures are from before tint, I will update when I can. P5070256.jpeg P5070259.jpeg P5070260.jpeg P5070261.jpeg P5070262.jpeg

Here's the maintenance history from Toyota Owners. Shows the new steering shaft and bolt from the recall also.

Congrats. You got a good deal. You can sell that car for an instant profit or enjoy trouble free driving for awhile.

I think it is a good deal for someone, I'm not looking to make a profit, just get enough to buy something different. Thanks, pass it along if you know anyone interested.

Price drop, $15000. My wife found a car she likes so that spurned the drop. PM or email me for my cell number.

Final price drop, $14000, that's as low as I'll go. Otherwise I'll end up keeping it for another 100k miles :)

Talked the dealer down some more on the car my wife wants. So I'm asking only $13000!!! I just paid $15k for it a couple months ago. This is a steal and will only last until the dealer sells the car she's looking at.

According to edmunds the TMV is $10k-$11k, mostly because it's a base model, so that's probably what you'll need to hit to move it. It's probably worth it to keep it another 300k miles.

No offense but Edmunds TMV is always crazy low, I've never understood their pricing. I already had CarMax offer me more, so it's just not accurate. KBB gives a retail price of $14,947 and private party of $13,272. Both of those also sound low after searching AutoTrader.com for similar year and mileage, but I've priced it competitively below KBB's low price even.

If carmax offers you more I say go for it, and that's mostly because patient buyers will be able to get something for the TMV. I got my loaded 05 Prius with 135k miles for $7500 this summer (It's saved me a good $1500 on gas since then), which was halfway between the edmunds price for a clean and average car given it's condition (mechanically it was clean, cosmetically it was average). Prices are all over the place because people are still trying to get what they saw when gas prices were higher.

Looking around locally (and Prius prices are certainly higher on the west coast than the east coast) I think most people would probably go with something like this at $8k versus your car at $13k because these cars tend to be really reliable anyway. Someone who wants a real cherry might go for yours at $13k, but it's not the same market as a sports or luxury car where something like that is really desirable. These are commuters/dailys, so condition isn't as important to most people looking to get one.

That may be true, but think of what you've said. You paid more than half of what I'm asking, for a vehicle with more than 4 times the mileage on it and thought you got a good deal. Sure a car with more miles will be cheaper, but with that comes more maintenance, more squeaks, more problems... no matter the reliability. Had your car had the inverter coolant changed, transmission fluid changed, etc, etc? Hopefully, if not it was well overdue, my car won't need that maintenance for another 5 years of average driving. You're probably right, this is not the car for someone who wants a high mileage DD. But rather for someone who wants an excellent condition Prius that will last them forever. Just like my case, I DD a 2004 Corolla with 161k miles on it and leave my wife and little ones with the Prius at home. My wife decided she wanted something more sporty, so I'm half-heartedly trying to sell it. If I don't sell it I will drive it, sell the Corolla when we change duty stations to the west coast and buy something sporty out there. Thanks for your input though.

The car I purchased had complete maintenance records from day one until I bought it. Oil changes, a belt replacement, transmission fluid drain/refill, plugs, etc... The Prius is my 3rd Toyota. The others are an 82 pickup with 275k miles and a 92 Camry with 235k miles, which haven't required a whole lot in the way of repairs. In the 17k miles I've owned the Prius all I've done are three oil changes and a TB/MAF cleaning for the heck of it. I imagine this car may be different than the other two toyotas and would require a substantial repair in the next hundred thousand miles, but I doubt it will since it's probably more reliable than the other two vehicles.

Even if it does, I could probably replace the entire drivetrain/pack with a low mileage pull for ~$3000 if need be, although that's extremely unlikely. Even a single large replacement (engine/trans/pack/inverter) is unlikely over the next hundred thousand miles provided I don't start beating on the car (Although my fiance is driving it now, and tends to be less careful w/ it). Having said that, I can see why someone would want what's perceived as a more reliable vehicle, especially if they aren't very handy, but I don't think that perception is backed by evidence. Someone could get unlucky, but in the aggregate these are the most reliable vehicles around. And if paying more for a lower mileage vehicle really makes people feel more secure about it, then I can't speak negatively of that either. I'm just playing devil's advocate based on my experiences.

I understand your point, and we agree that Toyota's are very dependable. We also agree that lower mileage cars are worth more than higher mileage cars. I appreciate your input but would ask that you would stop cluttering my for sale thread. Thank you.

I'm sure some one will scoop that up. I have 2 new cars so I'm set. Car payments and all. Not sure how to sell a used car, I see plenty in the Auto Trader, some just parked in Retail parking Lots with car for sale signs, and some consignment Used Car Lots. I think you can sell that car and yes if worse comes to worse you can drive it to Carmax. Sometimes the best deal is just a family member or friend looking for a relaible car.

$13,000 OBO. I've also got a $200 full detail I'll throw in for someone who offers a reasonable price.
