Bought the car at close to 3 years old and talked the price down by waving the maintenance. (Wasn't a Toyota dealer, so assumed they might take some shortcuts and rather have Toyota do it). But I never got round to doing that maintenance So now I'm planning a trip to Toyota. What should I have them do? From the top of my head (I do have the printouts from the dealer somewhere if needed): dealer maintained until Sept. 2011 and ~75000miles. Now at 88000miles. Have not received a note from Toyota regarding the recall yet, so will mention that (coolant pump and steering shaft?) And the 90000miles service from here ? And they need to do a bi-anual check for roadworthyness (equal to MOT in the UK) anyway, which is often free with maintenance (saves some 50$ that I can use elsewhere ) What else? Auto-box fluid? (Did that myself on the 'sealed-for-life' Volvo gearbox (with Toyota oil, that was the cheapest correct oil ) so *could* try that myself if it saves a ton of money.)
If you can replace the transaxle ATF yourself, then I suggest you are quite capable of doing the full 90K mile service yourself. At minimum: - Change engine oil and oil filter - Change engine and cabin air filters - Replace transaxle ATF - Raise up car, remove tires, inspect brake and suspension components for abnormal wear. Inspect exhaust system. Optional: - Replace serpentine drive belt for engine water pump. You'll probably find plenty of cracking on the inner surface after you've removed the old belt. - Replace the PCV valve now or at 100K miles. - Inspect the engine water pump bearing for coolant leaks: typically pinkish residue on the pump body or the AC compressor housing. Replace if needed.
The service you show from "John's Stuff" is the US service that is some what different to the European service. The European service is oil and filter change every 10,000 miles "synthetic oil", the 90,000 mile service is an intermediate service consisting of engine oil and filter change, check cabin and engine air filters, check fluid levels, and general safety check "covered by MOT". No wheel/tyre rotation recommendation for EU vehicles.
It's at the dealer right now (120.000km scheduled service). And it's failing MOT/APK. Canvas is showing in the rear tires . Measured profile depth recently and it was 4+mm so I thought it would be OK, but didn't notice any canvas... They charge 180€ per tire, I can do two for that price (and will do them all). Rear brakes are sticking, they can fix that for me (50€) and front disc is 19.6mm. 20.0mm is the minumum Will do that myself. Must be able to do that below 450€... Also had them remove cabinfilter (25€) but keep injector cleaner (12€) on their "to do" list. Any good sites (EU/NL) for discs and pads?
Put fuel in the car and reset the tripmeter A. But the tripmeter in the MFD continued... Strange fluke, will see if it happens again with the next fuel-up. As mentioned above, I had them strike the 'replace cabinfilter'. Still found a mention of it on the bill of €7,80... Gave them a call and it turns out that's the work to replace it, so they calculate about 6 minutes for it. Sounds about right (assuming an hour costs 78€). The cheeky buggers... They will now send me a new bill without these costs, but only after me pointing it out to them.
