Hi all - I am looking to make a move on buying either a Prius c Three or a Prius Three in the next month or two. I've been doing some safety research and saw some conflicting information. The 2013 Prius c is an IIHS top safety pick for 2013, however SafeCar.gov has a warning about injury for rear passengers from a side impact their tests. Any real world war stories? 2013 Toyota Prius C 5 HB FWD | Safercar -- NHTSA IIHS-HLDI: Toyota Prius c Thanks.
You can see the results of the side impacts they're talking about here: NHTSA crash tests | PriusChat
I did see that thread, however no one seemed to mention or discuss the warning note that the site has about side impact. The exclamation point text reads: "Due to the intrusion of the left rear door during the side impact test, the interior door panel struck the torso of the rear passenger dummy, causing a high lower spine acceleration. High lower spine accelerations, in excess of 82 g's, indicate a higher likelihood of thoracic injury."
