Dear all, I ilve in mauritius and am inporting a tspirit, 25k miles from uk. Car will reach in one month. The car has not been used for almost 2 years at the UK dealer? Will the hybrid battery and system be OK? Is there such a thing as re-energizin the battery that should be done?
The 12V battery will be dead, so plan on replacing it. The HV battery will, with small probability, have enough charge to start the engine. Most likely it will need to be recharged. If you are not an electronics expert, then you are not recommended to try this yourself. Find someone who is comfortable with HV and capable of wiring up a suitable trickle charger to the HV battery. Hopefully Britprius will chime in, as I believe he has done this. You will also want to replace the engine oil. Good luck. Too bad the car has sat so long. That is not good for Prii.
When the car arrives obviously check it out, everything may be fine. As nh70 says the 12 volt battery may not be healthy, but that should not be a real problem. If it does need re charging or jumping or even replaceing be very careful to connect the correct way round as lots of damage can be caused by reversing the battery connections. I think the HV battery will be ok if the car starts it will take care of it's self no further action reqired. If it does not start let us know and we will take it from there. The Prius engine does not start instantly when you turn it on "make ready" by inserting the fob in the dash, putting your foot firmly on the brake, and pushing the start button. There is a delay of about ten seconds. If the 12 volt battery has been changed, or recharged from flat you may have to go through the starting proceedure twice. Best of luck. John (Britprius)
Actually, if this car is going on the boat, it will have to be driven to the port. So hopefully they have started the car and moved it, in which case it will start fine when it reaches the destination. Otherwise, the car needs to be towed with the front end on a dolly, which would need some arrangements at the end port.
