In 2010 Prius V was a top of the line liftback, in 2012 a Prius v was a station wagon. This was a US marketing decision as in Japan the station wagon is a Prius Alpha and in Europe it is a Prius+ neither of which are as confusing.

^^^I see yes, we would have understood Prius w but I guess "wagon" is still a bad name.

Jimbo reference is to the old designation on the third generation Prius that used Roman numbers, so you had Prius I, Prius II ... Prius V. With the new family the Roman numbers were changed to 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

I was having a brake problem on my 2004 that happened only in wet conditions. The service adviser had me take it out with their Prius tech and I asked him about Plug-in Prius support and he indicated that it would not be a problem. This does make sense. Whatever may be the case on the sales side, service needs to have access to the Plug-in requirements just in case they encounter one that is on a road trip. BTW: From one thing I read the only hybrid/drive train differences are a different battery and software.

A dealer in Melbourne FL (Toyota of Melbourne) found the car I was looking for and is going to bring it in from 1500 miles away. I put a deposit on it yesterday so I will be a new owner soon. David Weber was great to work with and he did everything online. Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I just consummated (meaning my car is here, licensed, and has 150 miles on it now) a deal with Seattle of Toyota to get one, since Colorado dealers don't have one. Why a big Colo dealer could not have done this for me, I do not know. It all went well, and a friend here in the business arranged trucking of the car here for about $650. Licensing was a bit of a headache, but it got done. Of course I thought about several options, but driving it from Seattle by me or a friend would put 1000+ unnecessary miles on the car and probably cost as much as the trucking.

And I was told that a dealer here could handle any necessary specialized work.

I had put done a deposit for one here after being told they would be here by April or May, but when that got pushed back to November, I took matters in hand...

Congratulations! I haven't heard yet when mine will be here in FL. I suspect, since it is 1500 miles away it is in the New England states somewhere. They are supposed to be doing all of the paperwork to make the transfer today. I am trading a FL registered truck, so it will be much easier than your situation. The dealer just took delivery of their first 3 Base models this weekend. So they are starting to show up here, but it is very spotty across the state.

Here in Minnesota, Toyota has not yet officially made the PiP available.
However, I know of at least one dealer that has been selling the PiP for a year now.
John has an interesting hypothesis, which requires a bit of mental gymnastics.

Personally, my guess is the PiP is a 'compliance plus' car. Toyota is rolling it out in CARB or likely CARB states. They have delayed the roll out, but I do have faith they will roll them out to the rest of the nation.

Just an update. I tried to get a plug-in in FL through 5 different dealers. 4 on the southwest coast near to me and one on the east coast. The one on the east coast told me they would get me one, but after 3 weeks of excuses and delays, I finally found a dealer that would get me one from Virginia. I put down my deposit and signed the papers to have the car brought down. I have no idea when I will get it, but I am told it will be the first one ever through the southeast region. They are not buying any, but if you push, they will find one for you. Most of all the people I talked to said they couldn't get them.
