Well, my wife decided to get another Prius. It is a 2013 prius persona special edition. Black exterior. Black leather interior with the red stitching. It has entune, navigation. we are leasing it and then probably going to buy after. She is in love! We now have TWO!
May I ask what kind of tires you had on the Prius last winter. I live in Iowa so getting around in the winter is a concern for me too.
Bob I am actually not certain. I will check this evening and let you know. They are the tires that it came with as standard on the model two. The car was purchased in California. Not sure if they do different tires in different regions or not. My wifes, persona special model has 17 inch beautiful wheels. We are for sure keeping this one long term. Not sure about mine. I'm gonna wait and see what the new ones look like in 2015. Might look into a camry hybrid as well, but I really do enjoy this car. Only thing I would change would be getting one with more features.
When we were in California, our landlord who I really enjoyed as a person always talked about his gen 2 Prius like it was his baby. He actually convinced me to get my Prius. We became friends and talked about the cars a lot. I learned a lot about the car from him as well. He was definitely mechanically inclined. His Prius had over 100,000 miles as he drove a lot for work and his business. He said it was still getting near 48 mpg, in the hilly region of Northern CA. Pretty impressive. The thing is about this car, nothing can compete with it. Nothing comes close to it's great demanor on the road, impressive cargo room for a family, decent space in the interior and close to 60 mpg in the generation 3. That's why we decided to get a second one for my wife. I am thrilled to own two, not just for the enviornment, but because we are a growing family. wife and i both work full time. don't want to spend more than we need to at the gas pump. I am thrilled with the Prius!
I've had my Prius through 5 Minnesota winters with snow tires, as long as the snow isn't deeper than the car bottom, it handles better than our all wheel drive car and I've easily gone through places where other AWD cars are sliding around. Get snow tires! (The Subarus are great cars too, I wish they'd make an efficient hybrid or diesel here in the USA)
where in Golden Valley are you craigk? I grew up in GV two blocks from Brookview park off of western.
LOL! I love small world syndrome. I grew up on Dakota Ave. Couple miles away from Meadowbrook elementary school. As for the winter tires, whole heartedly agree.
does the gen 2 and gen 3 perform pretty much the same in winter? my wife drove the gen 3 prius last winter, which was a pretty tough, snowy winter. she said it did very well. i had the subaru, which was obviously great. we traded in subaru now for my wife's prius persona. i am a little worried about the winter now. I also wish the prius had a little larger backseat for my kids in their gigantic carseats. they always kick the front seats, sometimes on accident, mostly on purpose.
ahh, i remember those days. used to wish we had a taxi partition between us and the kids. enjoy them while they last!
Too damn funny. I went to the middle school, back to Meadowbrook for 6th grade when they closed the middle school, and then we merged with Hopkins school district, went to North Jr High and the Hopkins High. It is amazing I didn't get whiplash.
Obviously the subaru would be better! The gen 3 is much much better in snow than the gen 2! I had a 2005 for 7 years and noticed the gen 3 is noticeably better! Just remember there is not a lot of clearance between bottom of car and ground, other than that its great. Wisconsin common sense driving in winter!
I have 2 cars one we use most of the time 2012 Prius4 and I keep a Mazda CX5 suv around for times you need something bigger. Please note the CX5 does get 32mpg not as good as my Prius but better than other suv's
