Hey guys im new the the site .. love my prius. Anyway i was wondering if the extended warranty i bought with the car is worth it? 2011 with 42k miles.. the $1300 dollars for warranty seemed a little steep and im thinking about canceling it.
Like any insurance, its good if you need it. Beware that many aftermarket warranties do not cover allot of things. Read your policy carefully. As an example, an engine can overheat, warp the head and sometimes score the cylinders resulting in total engine failure. If the overheat was caused by a faulty thermostat (which is not covered under some policies) your claim would be denied. Read the fine print, don't take the salesperson's word for it.
Most, not all, aftermarket warranties are not as good as factory warranties/certified car warranties.. Most are big after-sale-profit makers for the seller.. Investigate/research the history and reviews of the company....Personally would stay with factory warranties..
Beware that many aftermarket warranties do not cover allot of things. Read your policy carefully Frank M stated it well.....READ/UNDERSTAND the policy..... and hope the company stays in business....
Aftermarket warranties are horrible. They won't cover much and you paid way to much, IMO. My Toyota ( I canceled it after getting the book) warranty had a zero deductible with a 5yr 100K mile coverage. I paid $750.00 for it. Read the warranty book very carefully. Who's the warranty provider and what level warranty is it ? They have about 5 different levels of coverage. The lower levels are a big rip-off. Some only cover the failed part and that's gonna cost you a lot of money. Most only cover the repair, but get used parts to keep cost down. If the motor failed and had to be replaced, they would buy a used motor from a wrecking yard. Now you have a real junk pile if it's a worn out P.O.S. Save the $1300.00 in a savings account and be your own ins. co. If it never breaks, you have the money.
It's the top level plan salesman said it covers everything and at 100k miles they do a complete car check and replace everything they find thats bad.. I kinda like the peace of mind about it because its my first hybrid and was a used car when I bought it... Seems like there is a lot more technical stuff that a regular car
Never believe a salesman, they don't ever own a Prius and they're there to sell you the vehicle, not be your auto technician or friend. That's why they're SALESMAN. Plus they don't know jack about vehicles, they only know the basic stuff that anyone can research online and the price, that's it, they get paid by commission on how much they sell the vehicle for. As for the extended warranty, I don't believe its a smart move because once your Prius is 10 years old, its time for a new vehicle, unless you want to fix everything that goes wrong after 10 years, which is costly because Prius parts aren't cheap. Plus, read what your warranty covers like everyone has said. Good luck.
The jury is still out on how long newer Prius will last. Usually newer models of any brand outlive their predecessor due to newer technologies. Currently there are millions of vehicles over 10 years old with hundreds of thousand of miles on them. Imagine how much longer current models will function. Additionally the poster's extended warranty will have expired well after 10 years anyway.
when i was shopping for a prius iv solar panel option, salesjackass at dealer said "hold the a/c button down and the sola/r panel will begin blowing in air." after 2 seconds of fan blowing air, the fans just stops. he said he swear its working, air is sucking in. i put a small sign with a hook on the rear view mirror and repeated what he said to do with the remote a/c button. it failed each time to stay on, later he said i'll be honest, i never tested it. and he also said extended warr/anty covered the sola/r panel if it ever failed, that i checked and not listed in items covered
I'll 2nd that, I drove to Davis, Sacramento, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, San Jose, Milipilas ca/r dealerships and every salesperson had a sister who owns a prius iv sola/r panel option haha
