I'm considering a set of 17" wheels and tires. I'm just not fond of the plastic hubcaps. I researched the OEM 215/45-17" tires and they are slightly smaller (.4" in diameter and 1.2" in circumference) than the OEM 195/65-15 tires. I also found that the 225/45-17 tire is the same size as the OEM 15" tires. Has anyone tried the 225/45-17" tires? If you switched to the 215/45-17" tires/wheels did you recalibrate the speedometer, or is 1.5% close enough? Also, does anyone have data on the differences in MPG between the 15" and 17" wheels? Size Dia Cir 215/45-17 3.8" 12.3" 24.6" 77.3" 819/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A 195/65-15 5.0" 12.5" 25.0" 78.5" 807/mi 59MPH 9855mi 1.5% 225/45-17 4.0" 12.5" 25.0" 78.5" 808/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
205/50R17 is also very close to 195/65R15, slightly bigger. It's also more likely to fit on OEM 17" rims, less likely to touch anything, and be better than 215/45R17 for RR, all things being equal. Our Canadian Touring came with the 17", in our case Bridgestone Pilot. They're not rated LRR, but seem pretty good still.
