    We compromised on down payment vs monthly: we put $2k down and are paying $220 a month (probably $240 if we get the extra wear & tear protection). This will actually cost us less than the $179 a month lease with $3600 down (taxes are included in both) over the life of the lease, and our exposure is more limited in case the car is totaled...
