Ok, I'm getting very annoyed. I have the special oil filter wrench and it fits nicely. But for the life of me, I cannot get the cartridge filter to budge! Is there a clip or something holding it back????? I have a long wrench and I do have leverage, but it won't move. The dealer had done my changes for a while and now it's my turn. I've done oil changes for 25+ years with out issue, until I encountered my 2010 Prius. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have it draining right now. I hate to fill it up with new oil and leave the filter.
Yes, there's clip, at about 7 o'clock. But it's probably the o-ring sticking. I've had to use a two-foot breaker bar to lossen the cap after the dealer has put it on. You'll likely have to use a small prybar (slotted screwdriver) to pull the wrench off the cap when you've got it removed.

Thanks buzzhead and tskarma for the help. I did finally got it off. And I thing find that useless clip. They the designers actually think that the filter would fall off? Anyway, I know next time what to do. It as the o-ring that stuck. But then I noticed the clip that stopped it from continuing. But was able to push it back.... Finally. Thanks guys.
I am thinking why these housings stick is because the dealers are not lubricating the o-ring (with oil) prior to installation. I haven't heard any DYI'ers having problems after they do the service. Just a thought.
Even after lubricating the O-ring it still gets very tight when the O-ring meets the housing. I can imagine how tight it is without lubrication.
