Hello Folks. Have a 2006 Gen II with just over 140K miles. The engine at startup sounds fine, but after running for 10-20 seconds I will turn off the engine (using the power button) or it will auto-shut off and it sounds rough when turning off (i.e. the car will lurch forward a bit, engine makes jerking noise that is louder/rougher than in months past). Any ideas on what causes this? I have done regular oil changes and recently (10k miles ago) replaced the spark plugs. Thanks!
1. Clean the throttle body interior and throttle plate. Do not contaminate the MAF sensor. 2. Did you use the correct NGK or Denso iridium spark plugs as specified in the owner's manual? If you used some cheap substitute, get rid of those plugs now.
Look at the second photo. The MAF sensor is to the right of Bob Wilson's hand, and is mounted to the engine air filter housing. The wiring harness connector is located at the left side of the MAF sensor. Also note that those photos are for Classic. 2G is slightly different, for example the air filter is located on the left side of the housing. To avoid contaminating the MAF sensor, it would be better to remove the air filter housing from the throttle body first. Also, I suggest using the minimum amount of throttle body cleaner so that dirty fluid does not run along the throttle shaft into the throttle motor. If you want to clean the MAF sensor, remove the sensor from the air filter housing and use MAF cleaner spray on the sensor, especially the wires and bulb at the tip.
