Not true. It is a customizable setting that Toyota allows (otherwise they wouldn't right?). Many of us have had the dealer do so without problems. I would have them show you the Toyota policy or state or federal law that says you must have an annoying consistent beep when you shift the car in reverse. Also tell them to explain why other cars are not mandated to have this feature. Maybe they can tell you what it is for (note that it is not audible outside the cabin).

If logic doesn't kick in with this dealer, hopefully there is another one close by that is more competent that you can trust your service repair to.

It can not be turned off, but it can be changed to one beep! :)

I had the reverse beep adjusted down to one beep, the passenger seat belt warning disabled, and the volume on the driver's seat belt warning reduced to minimum volume. (driver's side cannot be disabled). There was no charge for this.

I had the reverse alarm changed to one beep, the passenger seat belt alarm AND the driver side alarm completely turned off. Initially I was told they could not turn off the seatbelt alarms, even though it is in the manual that it is dealer adjustable (on/ off Pg 646 in manual). I asked nicely if he would show me the rule that it could not be turned off. He came back 45 mins later and asked if I wanted both the driver and passenger SB alarms turned of. I said yes (and they are now 'off').
Per the manual the only option is on/ off for seat belts.
When you turn the car on, an alarm does do 6 beeps.

Both my seat belt alarms are turned off too. I used Torque to do it myself since my dealer didnt want to do it.

I was referring to the 6 beep alarm. That one can't be disabled, but the volume can be greatly reduced. I believe it stops early if you buckle the seat belt quickly.

Good to know the skinny on the 'six beep' alarm. Thanks Ken.
