Very excited to bring home a 2008 Barcelona Red Prius with 73k miles and package 7. I was in the market for 3 months. I test drove a half a dozen Gen II's and two Gen III's. I nearly pulled the trigger on a new 2013, but I couldn't face the first year depreciation beast. I had a false start on a 2005 package 2 with 103k miles. I had a pre-purchase inspection on the 05, made an offer $100 over the higher of the excellent condition values for KBB and Edmunds. Unfortunately the seller wouldn't budge off their asking price. I have no regrets having spent $100 on a pre-purchase inspection for a sale that wasn't to be... I ended up purchasing the first Prius that I test drove. The KBB and Edmunds private sale values fell by $1,900 between Thanksgiving 2013 and the end of January 2014. The PRIUS Chat Dealers and Pricing subforum proved invaluable. I think the combination of strong dealer incentives to clear 2013 stocks, lower than expected Prius sales in December, reports of low ball trade-in values at Toyota dealerships, and sub $3.25 per gallon prices at the pump all contributed. Installed an OEM 12v accessory battery over the weekend and then enjoyed 50.2 MPG over 120 miles of blissful driving. Thrilled to be a first time Prius owner. Here is a pic of our new car... this Prius is in desperate need of a full detail.
Well done with your purchase, and welcome to PC. Please put your general location in your avatar, as in the future any questions you may have, the answers can be influenced by your location. John (Britprius)
Love it!! Welcome to the site, and welcome to having MUCH more money in your wallet and bank account now
Thanks! We saved nearly $50 with our first fill up today. 49 mpg at $3.20 for regular vs. 23 mpg at $3.89 for 93. We are happy new owners. My wife and I are having a blast learning new driving habits. We are now hugely excited to wander into a 35 mph zone. Learning to glide has become a game.
Haha! I literally LOL'ed when I read that. I know exactly what you mean. Ive always been a speeder, leadfoot maximus. With the Prius, I find that I can still be a leadfoot, get 45mpg and when I can find a 30/35/even 40mph zone, the Prius will usually go to EV, which is such a cool new weird feeling (when I first bought the car). So do you have just 1 Prius? Do you and the spouse share the Prius?
Great eye, it's an e30 with an OEM mtech II kit. I've been rebuilding it from the ground up for the better part of the decade. I just have to put all of the trim back together. Hope to have it on the road by the spring.
We are sharing the Prius but we are looking to become a Prii household. I'm on the hunt for a higher mileage Prius to replace our other car, but it will be very hard for us to part with our 260k mile 5 speed wagon!
In the distant past I owned a 1988 BMW 325iC, that was a fun car to drive and the engine was easy to maintain. I used Redline synthetic gear oil in the 5-speed manual transmission which helped shifts into 1st gear.
