My curiosity question is: With a brand new car (2014), not more than 6 months old....right?.... why would you NEED to change the battery already ??
How long do you think the batteries have sat in the new fob? And they won't be as charged up to begin with as say a brand new quality cell.
While that sounds like a logical assumption, you don't know how OLD those fresh quality cells are either. The system will warn you when the battery is getting low. The book says they should last at least one year, maybe two.
Yes, I was just curious and would like to be prepared. I was also wondering since the new car came with two smart keys, would it save the battery if I simply take it out of the one I am not using and put it back in when needed. Would that in anyway damage the key (without battery in it)? Has anyone tried it?
In my opinion, you are worrying about this MUCH too much. The batteries are cheap. Every time you pry open the case there is potential for damage. I think I read that an unused FOB "goes to sleep" if kept away from the car so just leaving it in the house should extend it's battery life a LOT ; there is a procedure for "waking it up" after extended periods of non-use. There also is a "manual" procedure for starting the car when the FOB battery is dead. Don't let OCD ruin your life. If you haven't already, you should read your owners manual. It has a LOT of good stuff in there.
Nope. No programing. But its best to keep the fob a distance away from the car as it will communicate with the fob within distance for quite a while then time out. If you can actuate the fob its within communicating distance. Remember there's multiple antenna's in the car and the system will do all it can do to initiate com and keep com to the fob.
