Hi everybody, I am a newbie so I hope I get this posting correct. I have purchased a 2010 Gen 3 I-tech at auction in Australia for AUD$17k which is a very good price but it does not have a key (finance company repossession with previous owner apparently serving at her majesty's pleasure so the key is unprocurable). I understand that the local dealership has quoted AUD$3k for a new key (I knew this when I purchased the vehicle). The nearest other major dealership is >3000 kilometres away. Local locksmiths seem a constrained in terms of what they can do. Getting a blade to access the vehicle should be reasonably straight forward. The sting in the tail is overcoming the electronic whizadry. My thought was to get the main ECU and matching key(s) from a wrecked vehicle and transplant them into my vehicle (I am a little reluctant to remove my ECU and post it to somewhere that will reflash it to accept new/used keys but will do so if necessary). Is there anything I should beware of or things I have not considered because of my lack of knowledge. Many many thanks in anticipation of help. Kind Regards Howard
Any old paperwork in the car? See if you can locate old owner and pay them top dollar for keys SM-N900P ?
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I understand that the previous owner is staying at accommodation courtesy of her majesty ie in jail!
Not sure about the EU version of the prius but here in the US, we can buy a used key fob from eBay & have the dealer reset the SKS system & use the provided" new" fob to register to the SKS system. The only problem I see for this is the prius needs to be accessory mode. I do know 100% that if u get a matching SKS Controller with matching key fob & plug it into it Prius, it will enter accessory mode but not go ready which is what's needed for the SKS reset If u know someone with techstream it will be cheaper. U can use a 3rd party & pay for the needed 6 digit code needed to perform the SKS reset. VS980 4G ?
Thank you very much. I do not think that the dealer where I live has the capacity to reset the SKS sysem to accept a used fob. Do you know what the components of the SKS are ie is/are there separate modules in addition to the ECU and is my thought of getting a second hand ECU +/- any other electronic modules with matching key fob viable??? Or can I remove the components from my car and send them off to get married to a fob?
Any Toyota dealer has the capability to reset the SKS. Yes, getting a used SKS module with a paired key fob will only work to get the prius in accessory mode. It will not go into ready mode until the SKS reset is performed. VS980 4G ?
Many many thanks. I will pursue this and let everybody know how I go - it will probablty take a while!!
If it serious, I have a SKS module with a paired fob I can sell u. Send me a pm if u need it. VS980 4G ?
