Hello Guys and Gals I've finally bought a Prius 08 69k for 6.3 sterling. I thought that I’d done enough research into what to look for when buying from dealer, BUT I now have to major concerns and don't know where I stand. 1. After the test drive and checking body work/interiors, I went to check the service history book and receipts, checked log book 1 owner since '08, HOWEVER, after checking the receipts more thoroughly once I got home, one receipt had the registration date of the vehicle to 2004!! Is there a way that I could've been sold an older car even with the Experian report check stating all clear?(report provided by dealer) 2. Whilst I was checking the vehicle, I checked the 12v battery, which was 11.9 but went to 14.2 once fully on. This is the limit of my technical prowess. So I enquired, having noticed the dealer's breathless pause that I was accessing such data (additionally the auto function on the windows was not working) meaning it could've been reset to clear some data! Anyways, he said he had it for few weeks and wasn't charged! I am worried as the hybrid battery never charges above 6 bars and once it does and I select EV mode, after 150-200 meters it turns to 2 purple bars and kicks me out of EV mode! Any input/suggestions greatly welcomed Cheers Abdi
If the big battery is 'fully charged', you cannot do regenerative braking, so it resists ever being 'fully charged'
That is how its supposed to work, it tries to stay between 3 and 6 bars to extend the life of the battery. If it fully charged and discharged, it would likely be junked in a year. However, you're saying you went from 6 bars to 2 in a couple hundred meters? That doesn't sound normal. How fast were you going? Also, using electric power too much can actually hurt your mileage. Only make an effort to use it at slow speeds (like a parking lot) or when coasting. Accelerating is what the ICE (internal combustion engine, the gas engine) does best, so use it instead of electric (again, unless you're going slow). The 12v battery went to 14.2v because that's what the car charges it at when you start the car. Check the voltage again after you drive it a few days and let it sit overnight or at least a few hours first.
welcome to priuschat! i think your fine, but i'm not sure how to tell the difference between the 04 and 08 in the uk. in the us, they made some exterior changes. all the best!
Thanks for the prompt reassurance, and yes I mainly turn it on during slow traffic. Travel speed between 20 - 29 mph. Are pictures allowed to be attached? Also, and more worrying is that I might be driving a 2004 vehicle! Is there a way via Toyota to verify? Cheers Abdi P.s need some tinted windows, feels like I am transparent whilst in traffic! Second day: flat tyre, 179 miles 52 mpg average
Put the VIN (you guys have those, right?) into a decoder on Google, that'll tell you the year and maybe even the options/trim package.
Vin checked out phew. Right, time to get technical and try link gmaps with prius sat nav system! Any threads on this? tried searching but nothing concrete yet. Can't find sat nav id!! went into setup nothing. Appreciate any feedback Thanks
Pretty sure the nav runs off a DVD under the seat. Highly doubt you'll get Google Maps to work with it.
I've registered with myToyota, tried following steps but 1) don't know the version name of Nav system installed on my system and 2) the Nav id can't seem to find it anywhere! You'd think, this info would be available via Nav manual but no, nothing!
