Hi all, Have never owned a Hybrid before and it is time to replace and downsize my 10 year old 160k mile 2004 Honda Element. Have always driven Hondas and am trying to decide between the Fit and the Prius C 2. I mostly drive around town to work, hauling a kid to his stuff, errands etc. Work commute is about 15 miles in stop and go traffic one way. My only hesitations: I have never owned a hybrid and occasionally will need to drive in freeway traffic. did any of you decide between these two cars? what was the deciding factor? We have a good friend who is a GM of a Toyota dealership. His initial offer is $17600 before taxes tags fees which run about 1300 dollars. Is that an insane deal to walk away from? Appreciate any insight!
Over the years we have had 3 Fits and 2 Prius Hatchbacks, I would choose the Prius C over the Fit for your particular use. More refined, better gas mileage, but you ought to take them both out for yourself on the same run and compare them. They both are good value, reliable, the Fit is a choppier ride, and no engine off at lights, and no running on elec only.
I'd take the c at that price. I paid a little under $23k for my c4 last March, and haven't regretted it at all. I like the free two year or 25,000 mile maintenance that Toyota gives new owners, and not having moving belts inside the c means less stuff to break down/replace/repair down the road. All that and it saves a lot of gas too, which will come in handy when gas prices inevitably start going back up. The engine shutting off stoplights was a bit confusing at first, but I've gotten used to it, as it's nice to not waste gas idling. You definitely learn to drive a bit slower with a prius if you want to maximize gas savings, but if you need to they can keep up with traffic too, albeit it takes a little longer to get up to speed. But I was coming from a 93 Honda Civic, so the acceleration was about the same for me.
Yes it's a great offer. thank you for the feedback. We are going to test drive today to see if we like it and if the car seat fits in it. Haven't test driven the fit yet but hard to say no to this price esp since we know we wont get the runaround with a dealer we know.
My last vehicle was a 2010 Honda Fit Sport. My current vehicle is a 2013 Prius 2. Hey, they are both excellent vehicles. To state the obvious, the Fit isn't a hybrid. That means neither the complication nor the benefits of a Hybrid system. What The Fit is, IMO is an excellently designed compact hatch back. I loved the dashboard, the layout, the flat loading surface, the magic seats, the configurability of the hatch area. For an ICE vehicle it get's what is considered by normal ICE standards currently as being good gas mileage. What The Fit is not, is a hybrid. That obviously means no shutting off at stops when the engine is warmed up and the battery is charged. That means no "Super" Hybrid level MPG's. How much do you want a Hybrid? If you are posting here, and not at a Honda Fit site? I'm thinking you are leaning towards the hybrid. If you are comparing Prius c to Honda Fit, they are both similarly sized. I would say I think the interior design of the Fit superior to that of the Prius c. It was amazing what I could haul in The Fit. That seems like a really good price on a Toyota Prius c. That's less than I paid 3 years ago for my Honda Fit Sport. I really don't think you can go wrong with either vehicle choice. If you want the considerable benefits of owning a class leading efficient Hybrid? -Go for it. If the Hybrid aspect isn't that important or desired? Test drive The Fit.
Thanks all for the advice. The C was just too small for my husband. We put a deposit on a new 2013 Prius v. Got a crazy price on it after a rebate.
Well congratulations and enjoy. I almost said something about taking a look at either the Standard Prius or the Prius v but since you seemed to be comparing The Fit-Compact...and The Prius c-Compact, I thought that was the arena you were in. I don't own a Prius v, but hey, it's a Prius....I think you'll be happy...and the extra room for EVERYTHING can't hurt.
In what general area are you from? And or whats the dealer.. I know you have connections to the GM but still worth a shot!
To me the bottom line is that the Fit is a choppier ride. Driving in a highway in a Prius is not an issue or concern at all, the Prius is not a slow car at all and if you switch it to power mode (that's just one button pulse) it reacts to accelerations like most of the 4 cylinders cars do. I drove/owned a Fit for around two years and I do not regret at all that I trade it for a Prius.
