Natural Resources Canada is introducing the 5-cycle test that the EPA introduced back in 2008 for the 2015 year. For 2014, it's a transition year so the pamphlet will list numbers from the old and new tests so that you can compare the fuel economy numbers between the two tests for each vehicle.
Why the delay? To let it seem like it is your's and not borrowed from us? Interesting that they have the 2-cycle and 5-cycle tests for the PPI and Energis near the end. They use about a 1L more per 100km with the 5 cycle compared the the 2-cycle during CS mode.
So now the big American gas guzzlers won't look as bad with their poor economy. I'd have thought Canada would go it alone. I though you guys were independent.
Our new numbers are almost identical to the the EPA numbers now. Previously, they were still different, even under the old EPA testing because our highway tests are done at 50mph/80km/h. The 2004 Prius was rated at 60/50 (3.9/4.7) in the U.S. but 4.0/4.2 in Canada.
The numbers posted in the new guide better reflect my personal experience with the car in terms of long term averages. Thanks for posting that Tideland Roland
