i have gmail and i love it. it scans my email topics (i have email alerts for posts here) and posts ads based on gleened keywords. for those of you that wanted DRL's here is a gmail generated link to an aftermarket option http://www.automotiveelectronicaccessories.com/ add a power reducer to "save gas" (i swear that is what it says) http://www.automotiveelectronicaccessories.com/aeapn481.htm
I think that's the problem the DRLs attempt to address; that without them you have to consider when it is most beneficial to use your lights in the day time. Unfortunately, the time you or someone else may have needed lights the most is the time you forgot to manually turn them on. Imagine how less effective other safety devices such as anti-lock breaks or airbags would be in reducing accidents and injuries if they were equipped with switches that you had to remember use. As far as increased energy consumption, I believe someone else on the forum did the calculations in a previous thread (I can't seem to find it now; darned useless bbs search software). It turned out that the effect is several orders of magnitude less than your .1 mpg estimate. Cheers, -- Ian
I like having the choice to have the lights on or off. IMO, DRLs just aren't necessary for sunny or partly cloudy daytime driving.
The purpose of the DRL's is safety, so that others can see you when driving and the suns in thier eyes... Most american made vehicles have DRL's but it just uses the front head lights this causes a problem to for the drivers forget they have no rear lights on in the evening.. I like the idea I can turn them on when i want, so its a waste of money to me..
I don't need DRL as long as the car has auto-off headlights. I simply turn them on and leave them on ALL THE TIME. That way, I'm covered if it's sunny, rainy, day, night, whatever. Also helps me when I'm parking in the garage (to not pull up too far)!
