Hi everyone, I recently got a used 2007 prius as my first car; I love it. Unfortunately today the drivers side lock has stopped working. when trying to use the smart unlock, the Prius would beep many times, and the drivers door would not unlock (or lock for that matter). After getting into the car (with the mini key) I noticed that the inner lock button does not lock or unlock that door either. all other doors function normally. The lock can be manually operated, so it's probably not mechanical. Could someone please provide me with some insight as to what the problem might be . Thank you so much! Marcus
I can't speak to the lock problems but I'd test your 12 volt via the procedure at http://priuschat.com/forums/newbie-forum/73400-weird-stuff-happening-mpgs-dropping-test-battery.html after the car has sat overnight or for MANY hours. Get back to us on the readings.
11.8v with load (not fully on). over 14V when Prius is totally on. so it's not the best but still working... I tried power locking and unlocking while driving with the same results :/. thanks for the help, Marcus
No, it's not. You can easily check out your battery status/charging system using the MFD in maintenance mode. No tools required. 1. Get your Prius into "Accessory Mode" - Press the power button without touching the brake pedal. 2. Put the MFD into "Maintenance Mode" - Press and hold the "Info" button on the MFD while turning the headlights on and off 4 times. 3. Press the "Menu" field on the screen. 4. Press the "Display Check" field. 5. Press the "Signal Check" field. 6. The 12v battery voltage will be one of the items listed, it should be above 12 volts. If it is lower, either the battery needs replacement or the charging system is not functioning correctly - see step 7. 7. Put a small load on the battery by pressing the power button again without touching the brake pedal. The voltage should stay above 12v. If it drops significantly, you need a new battery. 8. Now get your Prius into "Ready Mode" - step on the brake and press the power button. The battery voltage should immediately rise to 13.8 volts (Your Prius uses constant voltage charging). If it is lower, the battery will never charge; if it is much above 14 volts, your 12v battery will get cooked. 9. Shutting the car down will reset the system back to normal operation. If you need to get a new 12v battery, you can opt for a dealer replacement or get a better battery at a lower price at: Toyota Prius 12 Volt Auxiliary Battery with install kit for 2004 - 11 and install it yourself. JeffD A weak 12v battery encourages Evil Spirits to play with a Prius. If you have 5 years on the original battery, you are due.
yeah that's what I did. I checked it when it was working fine also and came up with the same results.
It is likely that the lock solenoid (which activates the power door lock) has failed and needs to be replaced. I doubt that the 12V battery is the root of this particular problem although it appears the battery is a candidate for replacement in the near future.
Thank you, I suspected as much about the battery. What is the difference between a door lock solenoid and actuator, and how much would it cost to replace these? I do have a warranty but I'm not entirely sure if it covers the lock.
Hi everyone, I recently got a used 2010 Prius Unfortunately today the drivers side lock has stopped working. when trying to use the smart unlock, the Prius would beep many times, and the drivers door would not unlock . After getting into the car from the other door i was only able to unlock from inside, also although i have used all driving modes e.g Eco mode etc but the mpg was only 46.5 .Also in the starting the Bluetooth was not working and the Toyota main dealers asked me an amount of £3000. Although i am done with the bluetooth problem but this door problem is still not solved. All other doors function normally. Could someone please provide me with some insight as to what the problem might be or how i can solve it . Thank you so much! Sajid Khan
