I havnt looked at the car yet, its my moms car and she says there is a trangle on the dash with battery/engine lights. It has a car with a line threw it. I guess the car with a line threw it means do not drive. The dealer seems to think it needs a new computer. Told her it would probobly be about $1.6k for repairs. What should i look for? do i need more info or anymore error lights to check? Would be nice if it was just a loose gas cap but im sure we couldnt get that lucky. Shes driving her mini van now but gas being $2.10 a gallon it may be cheaper to get the preus fixed. Any help would be great, if you need some pictures i love my digital camera and i can take some shots.
I freaked out for a while in a parking lot for a few minutes with it telling me I should put it in park. I'd put it in park and then back in drive and it'd yell at me again with that triangle. Took me that long to finally figure out the door was ajar. You can only hope it's something like that, right? Good luck anyway.
without the codes from the Toyota Hand Held Tester we won't have much information to tell you. With the codes there are enough people here to offer you an explanation of what is wrong.
Can i do that or do i need to take it somewhere? my brother seems to think its the oil light. That she hasnt reset the oil light after she got the oil changed. He said he reset it for her last time and its been about 4-5 months since. He said he held the odomiter button in and then turned the key on and it went away. Is this possible? My mom said it cant be the oil because sometimes the lights will go off and sometimes they will stay on. She said it will die sometimes and she has to restart it. She also said the lights were off when she took it in to the dealer and they put it on a diagnosis computer (ofcorse didnt give a reseipt of the ptoblem from the computer) they told her the computer was going bad and a relay. First they told her it would be about $1,200. she said she couldnt afford it she would just sell the car and then they said they could work woth her and it may be around $300. wich sounds like crap to me. I wondered if there wasnt a recall they were gona fix it then charge her for it. Thats why i started the online search. She said it hasnt quit while she was driving it it just died when she tried to back up once before she quit driving it. Its easy to tell people its a computer problem because people dont know much about them.
They fixed it for her for free. This is strange, she paid 1/3 the dealer that sold her the car paid 1/3 and they told her toyota paid 1/3 then there was a big dinner party at her work and the guy who owns the dealer talked to her and she thanked him and then a few days latter they sent her a check and refunded her money. So they paid for everything. They told her sometimes toyota will ok a repair or somthing and pay for part of it but they dont always do it. Its been running for about 2 -3 weeks now fine seems to be ok.
Ooops looks like I got to this party too late. If the problem was technical service bulletin EG011-03, it should absolutely be free, up til 80,000 miles. Do you have any paperwork on this?
