Finally got around to removing those ugly hubcaps and cleaning up the wheels underneath! Boy, wish I had done this years ago, makes it look like a whole new car. Ordered a set of 4 center caps off fleabay for $25 really made me happy! Thanks PriusChat for another great idea!
Yep, should have done it a long time ago. Ours came off within one week of purchase. Still have them in the garage in pristine condition. SCH-I535
Salesman told me many take them off before they even drive out of the lot. I get mine Thursday, but I'll probably wait until I get home to take them off, bag them up and put them on a shelf. My wheels will be black though, so I'm not sure what I'll do about the plug. Would be cool to find a 'spinner' cap like we had in the good old days.
Just removed mine to see what was underneath. Oh my, what a HUGE improvement. Now to order some center caps.
A couple of weeks ago I nailed a curb while parking and my hubcap flew off. Best thing to happen, because that evening I removed the other 3 and the car now looks so much better!
Could not find spinner but found Toyota center caps on amazon.com for $ 24.99 for a set of 4. Store front on Amazon is Hammer.
Yeah, I can find a lot of center caps, including the electrical caps at Lowe's people talk about. I can also find spinner caps for Cragar, American Racing, and other wheels, but I don't think any can be fit to the Prius wheels. I haven't seriously looked at any yet. I'm going to take a trip with the covers on first and then decide if I'll take them off.
I have been debating what I like more, the as-is (or as-was) look of the wheelcovers on -or- wheelcovers off. The latter wasn't my knee jerk because the wheelcovers cause the wheels to have a few scratches and blobs of tar cakes here and there on sections of the wheel. The wheelcovers on makes for a quicker clean job when washing it because the surface is so flat. For me though, what bothered me the most (same with the 17's on the Five/V) was that the spokes pointed in different directions from one side of the car to the next. Anywho, gave the car a bath last night and pulled them off. The wheels need some bug and tar remover, and eBay center caps, but I feel like once these items are done I will feel better about my decision. Here's a look with them off (like we need another pic, right?): It really does make the car look a little more athletic. Here is a shot with them on (again, like none of us have ever seen this ) My Prii is a 2010, but those wheelcovers have maybe 5k miles on them, and are in perfect condition, out of the wrapper from the dealer a few months ago.
