So i am trying to diagnose my vibration/noise that i am getting from the front ride side of my 08 prius (176k miles). It kind of like a rattle vibration when driving on fairly smooth roads. I jacked up the right side to take a look around to see if anything is out of the ordinary. I did the push pull around the tired to see if there was any motion (there was none). Although there is some play when you manual rotate the wheel, about and inch of circumferential motion. Is this normal ?
I presume you are talking about a front wheel and the other wheel is immobilized. If so, the answer is yes.
Concur. While you have the jack out, rotate the tires and see if the vibration changes. Also, see what your pressures are. I'm thinking that you'll want to bump them up to somewhere around 40. What we're looking for is a change in the nature of the vibration when you change the characteristics of the tires. This will point to a tire rather than a suspension issue. Small, FWD cars are more susceptible for "cupping" or scalloping than other cars. Balancing may also be out from slinging a weight since many tire shops use peel and stick balancing weights. Good Luck!
Thanks for the info. @ETC(55) During this time i have gotten my tires rotated/balance (just so happened to be due) and there was no change.
I'm sorry....you're right. I was laughing not at the OP, but at the comparison to my age. Apologies to all. This is a poor media for expression, and my humor has been bent for years.
