Hi It's been a long weekend with my 2008 Prius (100K miles). Water pump then condenser. I had planed on replacing the water pump since I noticed allot of pink residue on the internal pulley surface On Friday on the way home on the freeway the SUV in front of me threw up a retread and it hit the lower center grill and punched a hole in the Condenser. At least I could drive home It was 108 here in Arizona. I got the Condenser from my local AZ. Got the ND-11 from Napa. Rented the vacumn pump from Az. Got the condenser out but rounded one of the 10mm bolts with washer fixed to the bolt. I tried a punch Vice grips but ended up grinding it off. Lesson learned . Use hex sockets not the other ones with many notches Got it all back together. Evacuated the system added about 1.5oz of ND-11 in the Yellow but in purging the air out lost some of the oil. Added 12oz of R134. I have a Chiltons manual and it says 14 oz is the spec Is this correct The inside ventsare reading 45 def F. The pressures on the manifold were 35lbs low side and 170lbs high side. Ambient temperature in the garage was about 98deg F Not sure how accurate the guages are. 10 years old. Do these Pressures sound correct? Br Greg
Couldn't fluid and gas capacity specifications for my 2007. Assuming: 1) 2008 and 2007 have the same specifications. 2) 35lbs and 170lbs, you meant PSI (Pounds Per Square Inch) 3) you tested your vent readings as described by Toyota Then: Low Pressure) 35PSI = .2413MPa(Mega-Pascal) [specifications .15MPa-.25MPa] GOOD High Pressure0 170PSI = 1.17MPa [specifications 1.37MPa-1.57MPa] .2MPa LOW; 14oz of R134a might be correct, given the 12oz you added. Online PSI to MPa converter. LINK See attached, for test procedure, specifications, and possible diagnosis for a low High side reading. Good luck.
I thought about it but I have a $500.00 deductable and the SUV was long gone before I knew I had an Issue. Thanks
Hi Yes PSI for sure. Thanks for the links. I'll get a look. Looks Like Low Side Range 22-37 PSI High Side Range 200-228 PSI I'll get a look at the site glass tomorrow. BR Greg
UPDATE Calibrated guages and now get 37 psi low side and 220 psi on the high side Also thru thesight glass I do see allot of foam while the compressor is on and after I turn it off some foam that stops after 30 seconds or so. Greg
Low Side) 37PSI = .2551MPa, is .01 (rounding) too high. Don't know if one-one-hundredth is critical. High Side) 220PSI = 1.5168MPa, is within specs. Was the ambient temperature w/in Toyota's testing specs? Was the AC vent temperature w/in specs as well? If yes to both, looks like you dodged a bullet.
