After 400 mi of driving, 2009 Prius stopped in rain 200 mi from home. How to tell model of second generation Prius ?? Lots of red and amber lights on on the dash, what means what ?? 12.6v battery reading, disconnect 12v battery and car will move 100 yards before red and amber lights on on the dash. Does the 2009 Prius have a problem with the elect connections some where that water will get into ?? Not impressed with this car !!
are you in the u.s.? no, no problems with water, rain, car wash etc. sounds like you got a good screwing. who did you buy it from?
Just rain or a downpour and lots of standing water? How deep? What speed? BTW, you have posted in the v section and not in the hatchback section appropriate to your car. It might make a difference and not everyone experienced with your year car's differences would be seeing it here.
It IS a 5 year old car, after all. How long have you had it? Just for the 400 miles ?? Did you get an owners manual with it ? With modern cars, that is very important. You mentioned 12.6 volts but it's important to know if that is with car OFF, in "acc" mode or actually running. If it is not something simple and you bought it from a dealer, you might want to see if your deal can be "undone".
Check to see if the car's inverter pump is working properly. There is a recall on the pump and if it stopped working, the car would stop and overheat. The rain probably has nothing to do with it breaking down. More the issue of overheating.
butch, Anytime the dash lights up, it means there are codes present. The car is a used car, nothing manmade lasts forever. Have the codes pulled, then you will know what needs to be done. The Prius is finicky about which code reader is used. If it were me, a trip to the service bay at Toyota would be in order. I don't think the rain had anything to do with the car stopping, unless you drove it into a flood or something similar. Very possible it is simply the inverter pump gave up the ghost. There was a recall on those pumps a while back. Maybe yours wasn't fixed. Used to have a Gen II 2009 Prius similar to yours. Best car I ever had. Traded it in on the new Gen III I am driving now. I am very impressed with the Toyota Prius and think it is the best car on the road today. IMO, your Prius just needs a little TLC. Get the codes pulled. You can ask for the codes, and then post them back here. One of us will surely be able to help you determine what the problem might be with those codes. Welcome to Prius Chat, and best of luck to you. Ron (dorunron)
Did OP get washed away with rain? It was a good though confusing set up. Am curious to find out results.
