Hey guys, I've got a 2005 Prius. It's my baby, i'm the original owner and it's got 250,000 miles on it and its never let me down. I recently replaced my shocks and springs. I took everything apart in order to remove the old suspension, I checked to see what I needed and ordered parts accordingly. Well here is where everything starts to fall to pieces, I mistakingly left the rear hatch open and when I came back the battery was dead. Being as how the battery was original from 9 years ago I decided to replace it instead of trying to charge it. Today I installed my new Optima Yellowtop battery and now my car won't start and I can't figure out why. The only thing on the car that seems to work are the hazard lights and the horn. There is no power anywhere else. When I press the start button, the check engine light as well as the small green light on the park button flash and then quickly disappear and the power button flashes red for a few minutes then turns off. WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!?!?! Where do I go from here? I have checked the fuses in the fuse box under the hood and underneath the dash and they all seem fine. I also check the 5a fuse on top Thanks for the help.
Ok. Update. Originally I checked my fuses for continuity. Today I checked the fuses under the hood and there is no power going to them. However I checked the fuses on top of the battery and those do have power. Any thoughts?
I would do two things....one: Check the voltage of the battery at the battery. If you have correct voltage at the battery: Re-install battery....Oh...not really, but as poster BISCO said, go back into the battery compartment and make sure all connections are tight, both on the postive clamp to the battery post as well as the cable connections to the postive clamp itself. Then, double-check the negative connection. Does'nt seem like leaving the hatch open would kill a good battery, unless it was for an ultra-extended period of time.
You must have some power going up front since horn and hazards work. I would be curious what voltage your yellow top is reading with hazards flashing. I've never owned a Gen II, are these symptoms possible from a traction battery safety disconnect not completely latched?
