Hi! I am looking to replace the OEM tires on my Prius. Still have decent tread at 41,000 miles but dislike the tires immensely. They are Yokohoma AVID's and are horrible with crosswind and traction. I had General Altimax HP on my other car(which was non-hybrid) and they were excellent tires all around. This is one brand that Toyota recommends. Some say there was a slight decrease in gas mileage but I rather have that and feel safe. Any recommendations for tires that you have switched to with out a decrease in mileage and have also resolved cross wind issues, gave a quiet ride, and good traction in rain/snow? Also looking to upgrade lights to LED. The Halogens are quite dim. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!
You're asking for a miracle tire. A decent replacement, one that Toyota uses as OEM, very good for LRR, cheapish: Bridgestone Ecopia EP20. Just don't expect them to be any good in snow, especially once the tread is about half gone.
There are a ton of threads here on tires. I think the Michelin Energy Saver A/S are thought of as the best, but look in the other Gen III sub-forums for LOTS more on tires. Michelin Energy Saver A/S Review | PriusChat When I bought my PiP, I immediately complained to Yokohama about the OEM Avid S33D tires that came with the car, and they let me upgrade them to AVID Ascends at a local tire shop. So I've had premium Yoko's from nearly day one.
