Hi Could anyone help me please, I am trying to locate the dvd drive for navigation but i cannot. I've seen a post saying that it's located under the driver seat but mine isn't there! There is a black plastic box under the passenger seat, this one is available but i've looked under the driver seat as said but nothing is there. Is there any other place to search for the drive? I've checked the one under the passenger seat and it doesn't appear to be a dvd player, there is no eject switch or button. Some people say it's for the JBL amplifier.
I don't believe that there is a cd for the navigation. The navigation needs to be update with a usb stick through the dealer. At least that's what Toyota Care told me on my 2012 Prius.
I've seen many navigation dvds for sale on ebay for Prius as shown by attached images, also I've found an image showing a dvd drive located under the drivers seat. The problem is that I cannot find a dvd drive under the driver's seat!
My understanding is that the update is done via a download to a USB stick. My dealer tells me the unique code for the download is $169. My advice is to get a stand-alone unit like a Garmin. Almost as much as the download, comes with free lifetime updates and is a better unit than Toyota's. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Which style nav do you have? If you've got a 2013, there should be two possibilities, a 6.1" screen (with a CD slot above it, always visible), or the 7" screen (that swings open for access to the disk slot behind it). The 7" version looks a lot like the 2010-11 version but it's different. 2010-11 had two disk slots behind the screen, one holds the map DVD full-time. 2012+, I believe, only has one disk slot, same one you normally put your disks into to play them. For a map update, you can put the map DVD in, and the maps get copied onto the internal hard drive. OR you can copy them onto a USB stick and let it copy from that, but I'm not sure why you'd prefer one way over the other. Either way, you also have to enter a license code that's derived from the serial number on the disk and a unique number your nav unit displays on the screen. I think I've read the 6.1" version uses flash memory, and I don't know the details on how it is updated. -Chap
I think 2012 and newer Prii have hard drive-based navigation. Only 2010 and 2011 Prii have DVD-based navigation.
My 2013 only has 1 slot on top for playing a CD. It is updated via a USB flash drive. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
