So what kind of wheel weight (W/O the tire) will a stock suspension setup handle before an upgrade is needed, I see some wheels are weighing somewhere around 20-22 lbs per wheel, and stock 15 inch is around 16 (w/o rubbers) lbs and What kinds of upgrade suspension is needed to counter with the increased unsprung weight.
I have heard of people using wheels up to 25 lbs with tires that are 25 lbs too. The main issue you will have is a decrease in MPG, along with a short use of EV mode.
I dont really care about the the mpg hit loosing 5 mpg isnt going to bother me ,but i'll probably go with some Low Rolling Resistance 17in tires to counter act the loss. So I did some digging and saw that a OEM 5 spoke 17 inch wheels weight 24.5 lbs so i guess im within OEM wheel weight margins, but dose the prius with the OEM 17 inch wheel comes with stiffer or robust suspension or are they the same?
If you want a stiffer suspension, you can try lowering springs with a stiffer spring rate. If you want to spend a lil more money, you can try coilovers and multiple Cusco or Tanabe braces.
Good to know Not a fan of Coilovers cost wise and ride quality, ill probably just go with eibach pro kit (drops Fronts 0.8 in and Rear 1.2 in)
