I currently own a '04 Prius and have had no problems until yesterday. When I started the vehicle, I noticed that the centre screen was blank, and minutes later, it came on allthough the outside temperture display and current consumption displays were still blank. When I pressed the climate button they was no responce, I then tried the other buttons on the centre screen(the outter buttons) and none of them responded. The steering wheel controls do work however, this includes the auto a/c button.
Does anyone know what the problem may be?

    Hello again:
After reading into more of this board i found that the problem is most likely with the MFD, which will need to get replaced by the dealer. Any futher input is still much appreciated.

    Thx:)

If you are still under warrant this should be a painless fix. The dealer needs to be very careful about the reassembly of your dash. They have to get all the mounting points mated back together or else you might end up with a lot of dash jiggle or stuff that rubs and makes noises. Definitly test drive the vehicle and observe how the dash looks, sounds and behaves before you take the care away from the dealership.

I hope somebody else can back me up on this one, but wasn't there a TSB about MFD failures on 04s?

I can't remember the recall but I can back you up in that several PCers have had their MFD replaced under warranty.

it's a known issue. if you're under warranty it's replaced for free. if you're just barely out of warranty often you can push them to replace for free. if you're waaaay beyond warranty they have a refurbished MFD exchange program for a fraction of the cost.
