I've been hearing in the news that hybrid and EV sales are in a slump right now due to the strangely low gasoline prices. Is that true, and does that mean it is a good time right now to get a great deal on a hybrid?
The largest selling hybrid is the Prius which is in a major refresh cycle that stretched the time before the new version would be available. Likewise the Volt is in a refresh gap. So a gap in availability, people waiting for the next version. The Leaf is long of tooth. The Teslas expensive. Not that gas prices haven't relaxed some people's attention to the many costs of high gas usage. End of month, end of quarter, end of year, quotas/bonuses being calculated. I've bought this time of year late at night on a cold rainy day when the sales management knew they didn't have another chance for a sale. Sometimes dealer bonuses can work to your advantage.
Yes probably a good time to buy ... hmm reminds me I was thinking of visiting a showroom today just to see if they'd throw a used PiP at me for free, year end quotas and all.
Tesla is the only one NOT having a problem selling cars. If you expect oil & gas to remain at this level then hold off because inventory will continue to increase (before production is cut) and eventually there will be a new model. If you believe oil & gas is going to firm up sooner rather than later then now is the time.
...well I let my fingers so the walking on Edmunds...I found a bunch of used PiPs at one VA dealer and they were very expensive. Maybe I need to go deeper into MD off the Beltway to get a good used deal.
Truecar shows a handful in MD & VA. The cheapest is a 2012 in Lexington Park, MD for ~$20000. They also seem to congregate in Baltimore, Owens Mill, Marlow Heights & Waldorf.
I'm not talking used. I'm talking new 2015 Prius v (with the revised body structure that gets a "Good" rating on the IIHS small offset test). How much off invoice do you think I could get if gas prices remain where they are?
Thanks. Now I'm curious about the Camry Hybrid. Would there be a deeper discount on it than on a regular Camry? I mean, for example, would I be getting only $2000 off a regular Camry, and $3000 off the Camry Hybrid? Or would I likely get the same discount on both?
i think you'd get more on the hybrid, but it also depends on the package level of each. the higher the package, the more the discount.
I do not know, but the CAMRY hybrid is highly rated by Consumer Reports for example in most recent CR issue. Hybrid makes the CAMRY a better car, it has more power and more fuel savings. Increasingly I think hybrid/EV may be considered a step up higher cost package for those willing to pay more for a car.
OK, that's kinda what I was thinking too. I subscribe to CR online and they do like the Camry Hybrid a lot. I guess it's not like the current fuel price situation is going to suddenly make the approx $4k price premium for the hybrid version just disappear. I suppose it might reduce that premium a little bit, but not significantly.
the hycam is a better car imo. we find it quieter, smoother, quicker and more comfortable. the do a lot of little things that the regular camry doesn't get, like a sound reducing windshield. but even when gas was high 3 dollars, we got a 34k hycam for 30k in june of 2013.
Just going with the lower $3000 off amount, the Prius v Two MSRP (in my area) is $27,895 so that would be $24,895 which is like 10% off MSRP. Is that really possible?
anything is possible, only one way to find out... cali is an anachronism though, why not call dianne at carson toyota?
Dianne's pricing for the two is $25988 which is about $2000 of MSRP. That's why I didn't think $3000 off is possible.
well, you've gone with the least discountable vehicle of all the ones you mentioned. and i suppose cali still carries some hybrid demand.
