Where have we heard this before: Source: Government Urges Lenovo Computer Owners to Remove Superfish Software - NBC News Junk mail helps customers SPAM helps customers Telemarketing helps customers Targeted ads help customers The security flaw is bad enough but these "helpers" are rapidly diluting 'the bait' . . . quality content. So I am sympathetic to PriusChat wanting funding by click-through but . . . I run an older Mac which will never get an Adobe flashplayer. Meanwhile, flash has become the defacto, bandwidth consuming, pop-up, auto-playing adware. I don't care as the Mac continues to run very nicely, thank you! Bob Wilson
Lenovo has preloaded their PCs with spyware called Super fish that enables a 'man in the middle' attack by anyone on the internet who wants to. Removing it involves more than just uninstalling the software, you have to remove a certificate. How to remove the Superfish malware: What Lenovo doesn’t tell you | Ars Technica
Sorry, I should have explained 'Superfish' better including a PriusChat reference. The PriusChat trackers are not quite so bad and often lead to amusing banners. For example, I'm seeing "Best (5) Security Systems" after having commented on a member's security system query. I'm quite happy with our system and I'm somewhat amused. But in a world of such extensive traffic and activity trackers, I'm amused by those who think being 'anonymous' works. There are so many 'eyes on' at so many layers, it just doesn't make sense . . . except perhaps to Snowden and his sympathizers. Bob Wilson
The big difference is that PriusChat tracks what your interests are on PriusChat, while Superfish tracks what your interests on the entire internet, including 'secure' sites.
Jimbo, I just bought a new Lenovo PC. How do I go about uninstalling the software and remove a certificate? It does not show up in the Control Panel Uninstall Program files or the Program Files directories. I can search for it and see samples in the User...NetCache...IE files. Thanks, Dwight
Thanks Jimbo, I searched per the removal instructions and did not find Superfish in either the Program and Features files or the Certificate Manager files. Reading the Lenovo article Superfish was not loaded on my model. They also said they discontinued loading Superfish completely in January. Why am I able to search and find it in my IE cache files? Hmmmm. Dwight
The current version of Windows Defender removes it. Thunderbird & Firefox users still have to remove the certificate. Windows Defender now removes Superfish malware… if you’re lucky | Ars Technica
