Toyota certified warranty and tires

    I've had my 2012 prius exactly 2 weeks and 1 day and managed to get a flat tire already! Prognosis: poor. A screw in the part of the tire near the sidewall. Not repairable :(

    Does Anybody know if the Toyota certified pre owned car warranty cover a damaged tire?

    Bad Luck.

    Of course please call and check with your dealership, but I don't think your certified pre-owned warranty will cover your tires. Even on brand new vehicles the tires are only covered under the tire manufacturers warranty, not Toyota's or the vehicles.

    Ooh ooh I just remembered-I am still under the factory 3/36 warranty til April!! Also, these are brand new tires the dealer put on in order to meet the certified pre owned requirements from toyota (or at least thats what they told me when I bought it)

    Does that change anything?

    No, I don't think that changes anything. Road hazard warranty is a separate animal, purchased from Tire manufacturer/installer.

    Don't give up, give the service adviser a call and explain the circumstances, he might cut you some slack, as they are new you only need one.

    Yep, I'd give the dealer a call since they put the tires on new for you. If that doesn't work, find an "authorized retailer" of that brand of tire and see if they can get the tire manufacturer to do something for you.
    I had a similar problem on my Prius at approx 2 weeks - bought the car new. Got a flat that turned out to be a little thing that was too close to the sidewall so tire had to be replaced. Phoned dealership service dept., and they said the tires were covered under tire company's warranty. So I took it over to Discount Tire, which is an authorized dealer for the tires (Yokohama, in my case.) They called Yokohama, who gave partial credit toward the replacement tire, under "customer satisfaction" or something. Yeah, I suspect the tire was overly fragile to have been wrecked by the particular thing that wrecked it and wish Yokohama had done more... but some credit is better than none. YMMV.

    Ok tires not covered, go figure. The only good thing I have going for me is all of the tires are new with less than 700 miles on them so replacing 1 isn't a huge deal vs if they were all worn in.

    Need some advice though-Discount tire will give me $75 for the 3 GOOD integrity tires in credit towards a new set of Michelin energy savers. They have to order the energy savers however. Total cost $365 installed, after a $70 sale rebate.

    OR

    Buy 1 new Goodyear integrity tire for $125 installed.

    What should I do?

    you only need one tire so get the one tire that matches the other three don't worry about ride quality

    Is the screw in the tread zone? How close to the edge?

    I had finishing nail within an inch of tread edge. Dealership refused to repair, saying too close. I plug repaired, over two years back now.

    Personally?

    I'd take the opportunity to upgrade to the Michelin Energy Savers for what is essentially only $240 dollars more than you are going to have to spend for the integrity.

    But either move is acceptable. As you say the Good Years are new.

    Yeah I thought about that... Taking the opportunity and all. The Goodyear store had an integrity tire
    In stock for $90, discount tire wanted me to wait til monday so they could order the ESAS tires. I guess between that, and the tires being new, and getting 1 new tire installed for $100, I just ended up getting the 1 integrity tire. Oh well....
