I have prius 3g.....no fob slot in dash.....I still have a good fob but want to program another one myself and I found instructions on how to do that if I have the original fob......which I do..... Instructions say to insert old fob into slot 2 times etc etc........my question is this: would holding old fob next to power button be be the same as insertion into the slot on other models....if so then I will be able to reprogram a new fob.......PLEASE ANYONE.....ADVISE ON THIS.....THANKS
Those instructions are for a Gen2. You'll have to get a new, never programmed before keyfob from a dealer or locksmith. Then you'll need a copy of Techstream and the car interface. Search for "mini vci" for more info.
When we lost a key, I called the dealer they wanted the car towed over and such, so I ended up calling pop a lock, came out and cut a new key and programmed all for about $260.. Expensive key, but cheaper and faster than towing it to the dealer and waiting for them to get around to it.
So I found the mini vci and Techstream software included at $35.... Just want to confirm that when I get the vci I can then program a smart key fob from my original or from the data in the Prius's brain? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Did you get a new FOB? If so, you have everything. Note that if you lost your other FOBs, you will want to delete them from the car's computer. Unfortunately (or fortunately for me), I didn't have to delete a FOB from the computer so I don't know whether your software can do it. But I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't allow you to delete a lost FOB. Mike
