Well I figured it would not pass muster in "News" but the brief trailer got me thinking: Original Mad Max - real actors, stuntmen, and action. Staged but still within ordinary physics. Remake Mad Max - CGI which means 'cartoon physics' ... still entertaining. Now I don't go to movies because I 'see flicker' ... even florescent lights. IMAX makes me motion sick, my eyes have to agree with my sense of balance. So it would be a stretch to go see this flick but still ... Personally, I would expect a post-apocalyptic world to have sails. But then I'm an engineer. Bob Wilson
The trailer made absolutely no sense to me... The world is in chaos yet someone all the oil pumps and refineries are still in operation to fuel their crazy vehicles... I have about 0% interest to see this film. Saw Furious 7 on IMAX and it was entertaining, especially all the impossible physics and extremely improbable circumstances.
Want sails, you have Waterworld, which was originally written soon after Mad Max to cash in on the post apocalyptic genre. But yeah, the world is experiencing severe oil shortages, so let's all race around in monster V8s with blowers, as a friend put it, that could suck in children and small animals.
Actually, I'm old enough to expect a post-apocalyptic NOT to have me in it, so the genre really doesn't hold much interest for me.
I have similar thoughts when watching the Walking Dead. Besides the stale gas, there's some very durable 12 volt batteries out there.
I actually liked the Waterworld movie. but, the gang still had access to all that fresh gasoline hundreds of years later (living on a tanker).
But isn't that why all us Prius Drivers are discussing the movie? With only drops of oil left in civilization (wait, anti-civilization, whatever), they have to be getting crazy mpg results.
Funny thing, I was reflecting on "dystopia future" and realized that it is no worse than a "dystopia past" as advocated by religious fundamentalists. Watching a history series about the Civil War they pointed out the black troops often fought more fiercely than other Union troops because they knew they were not going to be captured and decided they would not return to slavery. It makes a lot of sense. Bob Wilson
