Howdy. So I'm looking into some options for tinting my Silver 12' and I was wondering if any of yall in California, specifically in Los Angeles, ever had any issues with tinting the front side windows - law-wise. I constantly see plenty of other cars with their fronts tinted, sometimes so dark that you can barely see the profile of the driver, and I always wonder if they ever get harassed for it. I was considering doing 50% in the front sides, and then possibly 35 or 20 on the rest. if you have a silver prius with gray interior with tints, how does it look?
Good question. My experience in San Diego has been that police selectively enforce this law for their own reasons. In my case, I was cited window tint by an officer that probably stopped me for speeding but then decided to cut be a break on the moving violation. Here's another thread with some discussion on the topic: How dark should I get my windows tinted? socal | PriusChat Here's the actual CA law: V C Section 26708 Material Obstructing or Reducing Driver x2019 s View You can find the relevant text in section (a) (14)(C)(c)(4)(d).
30% all around. Never ticketed in the Prius, but past citations have been add-ons to other violations. Never pulled over just because of front tint though
I'm not sure it qualifies as harassment if you're knowingly breaking the law. Just sayin'. And yes, I do have an issue with front tint. As a motorcyclist I find that your tint hampers my ability to establish eye contact (or in bad cases, even tell if there's someone driving the car).
