The nav screen on my 2010 prius has recently stopped responding to touch inputs. All the function buttons seem to work, that is, the map displays and follows the car, the AM, FM, CD, setup, info-phone,dest,etc displays all show when called up but none of them can be changed or adjusted via the touch screen. Anyone know of a way to reactivate it without pulling the whole unit, maybe resetting or rebooting?
I would eject the navigation DVD, turn off the car, turn it back on, and reinsert the DVD. Sort of a reboot. The instructions on page 27 of the Navigation System Owner's Manual say "If the system does not respond to a touch on a touch screen button, move the finger away from the screen and then touch it again". Seems simple enough. The instruction for ejecting the disk is on page 333.
At this point the close(eject) button and map-phone button will both display the proper screen choices but they won't activate when touched, and I've tried repeatedly touching, pressing, stabbing at, and practically pounding on the screen to no avail. Turning it off and on doesn't do anything either. I was wondering if disconnecting the 12 volt battery would reset it but I'm not sure whether it has a residual memory keeper or not.
Oh yeah, there is that DVD eject button that is "on screen", and it is down there in the corner of the screen and difficult to press. Hmm, difficulty. My DVD eject button was a bit sluggish, it didn't seem to highlight momentarily to indicate it had registered a press. The screen just began its rotation to expose the drive slots and the DVD slid out. You might try the master reboot, pull the 12V for about 10 minutes. The NAV unit seems to be on its own circuit separate from other functions of the car. You might have noticed that when you turn off the car the NAV DVD continues to spin in the drive for 15-20 seconds.
OK - Thanks for your input. I guess I'll give the 12V a try and see if that works. Can't hurt, right? I'll let you know how it comes out.
Yeah, I figure the worst that could happen is I would have to reprogram everything, if it works, that is. But now I won't have time to do it for a while, so I gotta wait.
Hello did you find solution? I just had my Prius 2013 detailed and now the touch screen is unresponsive. I can scroll through the various windows from the steering wheel buttons but the touch doesnt work. I tried cleaning with isopropanol but no good.
Hmm, one-and-done. Well, four and done. Sometimes we just have to assume that no further traffic means problem solved. There are those that effect a proper closure which helps. Sometimes even a variation on procedure which helps more. Your situation is a bit more difficult. And over a month since your post you may have already figured it out. I could guess at some things like a weak 12V auxiliary battery leading to improper Prius boot when making ready. It's been a while since I've thought about Gen III, but I think you had to be careful when cleaning the MFD touch screen to not get any liquids beyond the bezel. Hard to say what the detailers may have done. I recall there may be a routine for aligning the touch overlay to the icons underneath. Have you pulled the 12V and reconnected yet?
