Hi PriusChat, I have the exact same problem as described in the below video. Any ideas what the problem is? I have worked on brake pads once. I just haven't had the guts to try it on my Hybrid yet. I need find somewhere to buy a LISLE 28600 in Canada to get started.
i'll leave this one for mendel, but make sure you disconnect the 12v before working on prius brakes. all the best!
Okay, so I finally bought a disc piston cube. I will get a chance to take a look my rear brakes later this week. Anyone know what causes the squeal shown in the above video?
I pulled my rear passenger calipers off and lubed it today. Took it for a test drive and the squealing noise was still there! Then I realized that I serviced the wrong wheel. I then got smart and rotated the front passenger wheel when it was suspended off the ground. It made a small noticeable squealing noise. I then disconnected the battery and removed the front caliper. My front pads had 7mm on them. Turns out that the inner pad squeal bar was somehow bent straight and was making contact with the rotor. These squeal bar on these Toyota OEM brake pads are prone to bending. I simply bent back the squeal bar with some pliers and reinstalled it. These Toyota OEM Pads are not exactly that great. My next set of pads would probably be from some name-brand aftermarket. I lost my motivation to take pictures when I realized I had to take another tire off. I only have one picture of my front pad.
What's the best way to pull of the rear Prius calipers? I used to compress the piston first from the outside by putting a c-clamp against brake pad with the caliper still on the rotor. It would create room and make it easier to wiggle the caliper off. I couldn't do this with the rear brakes because the piston is rotatable and is not compressable.. Does anyone know of any tricks to removing the rear caliper easier?
