Hi Take a look at the picture, this is not my prius just demonstrating which light is not working. It's the one on the passenger side, (the big cylinder, cloudy eye is another name I saw online). When the regular lights are on the bulb is not working, when the high beams are on, its working fine. So my question will be, is this called the headlight (H11 bulb) or is it a different one? Is there a manual for how to replace it and why is it working on high beam? Thank you!!!
That is the lowbeam headlight. The highbeam is the open reflector next to it, which should also be on when in highbeam mode. The H11 lowbeam bulb only has one filament, so if it is working in highbeam mode but not in lowbeam mode, it's not due to the bulb. Have you checked your fuses in the engine compartment fuse box? Look under the cover of the fuse box for anything headlight related in the legend. Fuses 21 and 30 are the left and right headlight lowbeam fuses, 15 amps. If you find a blown fuse and need to buy more, they are called low profile mini ATM fuses.
Just checked both fuse boxes, under the hood and under the steering wheel. All look good. I think i will get a set of light and just replace them on each side (to match) and hopefully this will fix it
I believe your money would be better spent on some new fuses and a cheap multimeter/circuit tester. Both could be purchased at a Wal-Mart for under $15. You can't always determine a bad fuse by visually inspecting it. Take them out of the fuse box and test them for continuity with a multimeter.
