I am looking to buy a 2012 Prius and I test drove it. Everything seems ok except each time I press the brake pedal there is a swoosh noise its as if air is being released from somewhere and I can easily hear it. Is this normal? the car is 95000 km on it. The dealer says it might be a normal hybrid noise. I currently have a 2007 Prius but that does not make this noise. Thanks.
should sound just like the '07. i would have someone check it before buying. i went from an '08 to a '12 and didn't notice anything.
Are you certain that sound isn't the brake pump running, as it often normally does when you brake (among other occasions).
A distinctive noise every time you step on the brake? Doesn't sound right, and I think the salesman's just trying to brush off your concerns.
When you use brakes, the pump intermittently makes the same whirring noise it does when you first open the driver's door from the outside, except for a shorter time. If it's definitely not that sound, I can't guess what it is, and you might have a problem.
