The worst day only got worse only ten minutes from home. I missed my turn and quickly moved over to try and get into the right lane but I pulled forward to far and hit a curb. All the way home it sounded, as a previous post has suggested, like "a garbage can dragging." Finally made it back and luckily it appears to only be the plastic liner in front of the wheel dragging. Problem is, no appointments available at Toyota dealership until Tuesday. I work almost all day tomorrow and can't sit around waiting to see if they can fix my car. So, I am trying to decide if it is okay to cut away the plastic for a few days until Toyota can fix the car.
I don't remember the cost of this part but I don't think it's that cheap. Once you cut it off, your only option would be to buy another.
if you cut it off Id buy the replacement on e bay they are under $45 , Im sure the dealer will get you for three times that...for now Id jack the car up take the tire off and pop it back into place and carefully duct tape it in place, along the edge of the fender and bottom of the car..the glue may damage the paint so Id do it on the lip of the fender..and under the door and bumper...or get some long zip ties from wall mart and hold it in place with them..I think a bag of 20 is around $4
Yeah you can usually get it put back into place. Otherwise a half roll of duct tape can fix anything. As to your problem in the first place, if you miss turns or whatever just keep going and re-route yourself. Too many people do stupid, dangerous, or silly things because they "missed" their turn or offramp. Just drive the extra minute.
I would try and zip tie it back. Once you cut it, you're gonna have to get a new one and those plastic pieces are not cheap (even though they're plastic).
I would only cut it unless you are sure it is damaged ... and damaged enough that it can't be made serviceable. You don't need to go to a dealer for this .. unless it's the easiest place to go. I would try and push it back into position and see what is going on -- generic push fasteners are available at any auto parts place. .. and Zip ties are very handy for emergencies .. and many times make permanent fixes. Those under panels/ fender inner panels are all over the place in cost ... I recently did a Mercedes panel for $45.00 and the one for my Nissan was $160.00 -- and it was smaller and not as well made ...
I agree 100% with this. Zip tie it, or use baling wire, anything to hold it in place. You might just need a couple of fasteners from the dealer.
