How one drives makes a tremendous difference in MPG. Going to the local Business Park (15 miles ) driving spiritedly, my PIP got 46 mpg, decline most of the way. Returning, slightly uphill, doing the speed limit and cruise control, PIP got 125 mpg.
6 mile trip, slight decline, I get mid 40's, trying to keep up with traffic, in Eco mode. Same trip, playing with Eco mode while accelerating, and EV mode while cruising. This varies, sometimes I get 64 mpg, 88 mpg, and 103 (?) mpg. Same trip, all EV, but the screen will always say 999 mpg, so that doesn't count. I haven't tried regular HV yet as I noticed Eco is insanely slow to accelerate and will not keep up with traffic. I am being tailgated even by women haha, people switch to the next lane and punch it to pass me. A lot of people get pissed off at prius drivers. I need to try and keep up so that I don't fall under the stereotype prius drivers, but hey, at least I am not the "rolling road block" hugging the left lane and not let anyone pass! Hahha iPhone ?
Forget all those people. It's interesting how many times I catch up to all the speeders at the next lights. Sorry for the misspelling.
ECO mode does not change how much power is available. It just changes the power vs. throttle offset curve. In other words, you have press it further to get a given power demand. But if you floor it, the power demand is the same in PWR, ECO, and normal mode. ECO mode also lowers the target coolant temperature, so the ICE will run less just to warm up.
