Yes sir, that's what I do anyways. I also keep all my recieps and write down the total mileage driven per tank, the indicated mpg, the hand calculated mpg and usually the variance percentage for indicated to calculated. (Usually between 4% as a low to as high as 9%, usually lower in the summer though).... I really need to set up a fuelly account as once you input the data it makes a nice flow chart to view and compare trends with seasons, etc....
Just filed up my wife's 2015 persona yesterday. Filed it up with 2 bars left on the display. 400 miles even and it took 8.445 gallons. Price was $2.39.9, which was $.20 cheaper than any other station around here right now (yay). Anyway that came out to be 47.37mpg's. Mostly a 70hwy/30city mix, with the highway being mostly 55mph speed limit (rolling hills). This is the third fill-up since we purchased the vehicle and they've all been between 47-48.5 mpg's. I'll take that! LG-D801 ?
Does the 3rd gen prius really have a 9.5 gallon tank? Thought it was somewhere around 11.5 gallons XT1060 ?
Back page of the Owners Manual: Fuel tank capacity 11.9 gal. (45 L, 9.9 Imp.gal.) Maybe the confusion due to US vs Imperial gallons.
The PiP has a 10.6 gallon tank, but it only takes 10.3 gallons after "running out". I suspect the Prius doesn't use the last drop of fuel before it shuts down. Maybe it shuts off at the first sign of sputtering. At least you pay a lot less for a bottle of scotch than the other West coast states. Maybe it evens out?
Filled up my new Ram 1500 Big Horn Crew Cab 4x4 Hemi yesterday for the first time.... 13.44 mpg calculated and 13.8 displayed making the variance only 2.5%
I'm disappointed after 1 fill up and a good way into the second tank. Got an indicated 40.8 at fill up (38 calculated) and maintaining pretty much the same into the second tank. I have 535 miles on ODO and its been unseasonably warm here in flat N. Florida - in the 70's and 80's. Just dropped it off at the dealer to get my tinting done and the loaner (same model/different trim) is averaging around 46 after 11k miles. My short drive to work in it got me about 45 MPG. Its a significant difference in my mind, since the indicated avg has been real consistent since I bought the car and this car is a dramatic difference right away. Should my MPG improve as the car 'breaks in' or is this what I get. I drive mostly city commute - 8 miles one way, but occasionally take it 20-30 miles on short highway trips.
How long does it take you to travel those 8 miles to work? Short trips do not get good fuel economy because the engine has to warm up, and the trip duration doesn't allow enough time to reach full operating temperature. 40 MPG doesn't sound right for an 8 mile commute though.
My wife has a similar 8-9 mile each way commute and she can't seem to get better than 35-37 +/- out of her 2014 Prius v (wagon)... I really think its the shorter commute and a fair share of stop and go thrown in that does not help, plus she keeps a lot of stuff in the trunk!! I think we have like 6k miles or so on that car now.. Don't think we have ever seen over 40 mpg.. Plus remember winter gas robs you of mpg.. My old Persona (17' wheels) averaged I think like 43mpg calculated for its lifetime (owned it 1 year, 18.5 mile each way commute)..
Well that is discouraging...I have a hatchback Prius, so it should do a little better than a V, but still, i'd expect mid 40's at least. Around town driving is supposed to be better than highway for a hybrid.
