We have a 2013 Plugin and are currently on vacation. The car is not under cover and we're using a vacation house receptacle to connect. It is raining heavily and I'm wondering if the connection point will become dangerous if it gets wet. Also, it has become increasingly difficult to plug the connector in. We have to force it in with continued pressure. Suggestions/Answers?
no, rain will not harm it. i have charged in pouring rain and snow, it was designed for that. as for insertion difficulty, look into the handle end, and you should see a gasket out od place. just pull it out and disgard it, it is not needed, and has become an obstacle.
Wow! You nailed it! I've removed it but just to be safe and sure will that removal affect the safety of the plugin connection? Should I buy another "O" ring?
You could replace it with a new OEM one but for the experience of sooo many here in PC that had done the same, me included, it is not necessary.( we can live with out it) What happens is the following, the natural "O" ring material slickness dries out and gets drag out of place at removal time and them some
Been plugging in the rain for the last 3 years, no issues. It's designed for that. Last night after work came to my car unplugged it and the battery was empty. Charge cable was blinking red. Pissed me off. But it just occurred to me. Power was cutoff for a good reason. EVSE probably saved my life. That's why this glorified extension cord costs $1000.
